Ducklings saved from sewer

CALGARY - Emergency responders helped out nine trapped babies and a frantic mother late Monday morning.
It was ducklings and a mother duck, mind you, but a group of Calgary cops, city workers and a bystander with a duck call horn still teamed up and took the time to pave the way for the heartfelt reunion.
The nine ducklings were trapped in a manhole along Blackfoot Tr. near Ogden Rd. S.E.
“Apparently, they had asphalted over a manhole and there were some
ducklings still inside,” said Calgary Fire Department Battalion Chief Al Magwood.
But the fire department was actually called off, said Magwood. It was the cops and city workers who rolled up their sleeves on this one, reaching down to fish the ducklings out one-by-one as a bystander lured them with the duck call horn.
After some time, the ducklings were returned to mom.

“You don’t hear a lot of asphalted duck calls, but we do get a lot of weird animal calls (in Calgary),” said Magwood.
